With the cold months on the horizon, are your trees in good shape? You should be asking yourself what fall chores will stand up to the winter winds and safeguard your property. When was the last time you put a dead or overhanging branch under scrutiny?
For those of us in Central Oregon such questions have a way of being more consequential than one might suppose. In our 15 years at 4 Brothers Tree Service Inc. we have made it our business to see that the trees of Redmond, Prineville, Bend, Deschutes and Sisters remain in fine health from season to season. We are a family operation and can be reached at (541) 815-2342 any hour of the day or night.
You will not find a better time to tend to your trees than in the fall. The summer heat is a thing of the past and winter’s worst has yet to make its appearance. It is a good window to do some pruning and put protections in place ahead of a big storm. Here is what we like to put in front of our neighbors in these parts.
Why Do It in the Fall
Growth of a tree will wane as the season turns and energy is channeled into the roots. There is work to be done then that would only put a tree under stress in the growing months. Do it now and the tree will be all the better for it when spring comes around. Given the wind, ice and snow our region puts out, a bit of forethought can prevent you from footing an expensive bill for damage down the road.
Tasks of Note
Before winter makes itself at home there are a few things to consider:
- Put in a deep watering of the trees while the ground is still soft so the roots are hydrated.
- Make an inspection of the trunks for any decay, splits or cracks.
- Prune away anything diseased or broken; do not let the elements bring it down for you.
- Limbs encroaching on walkways, the driveway, roof or power lines need to go.
- Rake up leaves which hold moisture and are a magnet for pests.
- A mulching of the base will shield the roots from the freeze.
- Give any leaning trees or exposed roots a once over, they may be indicative of trouble.
Too often a homeowner will let a branch fall before making a move and then the cost has run up with the damage.
Storm Risks
The weather in Central Oregon has a mind of its own. One minute it is a quiet fall day, the next you have strong winds or an early snow putting undue weight on branches. Go for a walk about the property and look up. A branch that is cracked or looks weak will not last the first storm. Those in proximity to the house or garage warrant a closer eye. Should you have any doubt as to whether a tree is a hazard, get an experienced set of eyes on it. We will give you a straight answer.
On Fire Fuel Reduction
It is prudent to reduce fire fuel this time of year. Thinning out thick growth and getting rid of dead wood creates a buffer for your home in the event of a wildfire. That effort does not just serve the present, it puts your property in a safer position for next year’s fire season. We provide these services for commercial and residential clients in the region.
Make the Call
A homeowner can put in his own time raking or spreading mulch. But to take down a large limb or work near power lines is no place for amateurism; you want the proper equipment and know how to avoid injury or worse. We are fully insured and will take care of the residential and commercial side of things. Our emergency wind and storm services are on hand 24 hours a day should a tree come down when you least expect it.
Our 30 plus Google reviews from other homeowners in the area will attest to our work.
There is no need to let a storm be the one to tell you a branch was overdue for removal. Get in touch with 4 Brothers Tree Service Inc. at (541) 815-2342 for a free estimate and to book your fall care. We are here 24/7 to put your mind at ease and see to your property.
